Buenas Noches (Good Night)

This short film is about a grandmother bidding her granddaughter good night. However, there seems to be a lingering sinister presence at night that the young girl knows about... Something the grandmother may just discover, too.

This is reminiscent of Ignacio Rodó's Tuck Me In, an award-winning short film of the same nature.

Alma

This short film is about Alma, a woman caught in the tangle of human trafficking. She begins the day simply, with not many expectations, but ends up in a terrible situation that is not of her own choosing.

This is gritty and sad. It also makes you reflect on the horrible, illegal industry where a lot of people get rich from, on the pain of others.

Eres Cada Solitario Instante (You Are Each Solitary Moment)

This short film about a young man who committed murder (and then simply walked away) leaves my mind blown. Done with little dialogue but with quite some build-up, this film just amazes me with its simplicity and impact.

Here's the director's given snippet about the film:

Inspired in (sic) the poem "You are not the others" (The iron coin, 1976) by Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges, this film tells the story of a young man that kills in cold blood a person who has entered into his house, and then escapes from the crime scene.

This short film about a couple traveling through Uruguay features an interesting monologue about a guy and his feelings for his girl. Is it about the words left unsaid, or the expression of love through little gestures?

Cantautor

This short film about two men writing a song, and looking for someone to play a violin, is intriguing, to say the least. It's gritty, there are hints of a kidnapping, as well as plenty of drinks, and the phone never seems to ring.

This adorable short film about man trying to keep a bird by his side is short and sweet. It's cute, simple, and yet is something to bring a smile to your face during a dreary day.

This curious short film about men in the underground actually leaves you with more questions than answers. What is the couple doing, exactly? Why did he win the game three times in a row? Why are there dirty-looking people underground?

El Empleo (The Employment)

This animated film about a world where people have odd but vital jobs is striking, to say the least. The simplicity of the scenarios and the unsaid movements show a too different, yet very familiar, world.

While I wonder whether it has an allegorical meaning, I am nevertheless moved. Oh, the drab, tiring 9-5 world, where you sometimes have to be a doormat to someone higher up.

Violento (Violent)

This film features the sad story of a bullied teenager.

While it was not as violent as I thought it would be, it had definitely pulled on my heartstrings. A moment of silence may be necessary after watching this.

Beautiful cinematography on this short film featuring a hat, though NSFW due to some titillating scenes.

I wish I would not quite get to the point wherein I could feel resignation right on my fingertips.

Mamá

Mamá is among the creepiest things I've seen so far. (And to think- it's only 3 minutes long!) Not watching that any time again soon.

Interestingly, this inspired the mainstream director Guillermo del Toro to make it into a full feature film, too.

This short film is about a woman who is talking about her fictitious life to a telemarketer on the phone.

Would you make up a story for a stranger to believe you are someone else? I think I would, if my heart couldn't take it too.

Luminaris

An amazing short that got nominated for best short film at the 2011 Oscars.

I just love the premise, the movement, the music, the plot. Great use of stop motion animation. Simply beautiful.

La Corona de Sofía

A mixed media film about a 21st century girl born to wear a crown. Features some fantasy elements, and there seems to be an allegorical theme to it too. Interesting, to say the least - especially the post-production work.

Oda

This is a 3-minute ode to a train wreck that happened on a certain day. (Its significance comes from the 2012 Buenos Aires rail disaster, AKA the Once tragedy.)

It's more poetic and musical than anything.
