Merry Little Christmas

This short film is about the abuse a mother and daughter undergo through the hands of a man. Told with a number of bloodstains and visions of monsters, this movie shows the horribly terrible life of those who experience domestic abuse.

This one affected me very much. It's honestly very brutal, so steel yourself before watching this.

(By the way, El Orden De Las Cosas is another heart-breaking film that tackles domestic abuse.)

Buenas Noches (Good Night)

This short film is about a grandmother bidding her granddaughter good night. However, there seems to be a lingering sinister presence at night that the young girl knows about... Something the grandmother may just discover, too.

This is reminiscent of Ignacio Rodó's Tuck Me In, an award-winning short film of the same nature.

*There are English subtitles for this, which you can enable as captions on the video.

Creepy Crawly

This short film features a mystery about a creepy crawly that seems to be terrorizing a town. Amidst guys with guns and deaths abound, this movie might just give you another reason to be frightened of arthropods.

Notably, there's also a version of this film with an English-speaking cast.

Muertas De Asco (Sick Death)

This short film features two sisters who are on their way to meet up their dad. They have a tied-up zombie in the trunk, and more zombies are on the open road.

Besides bloody entrails, circus acts, bounty hunters, and a mechanized monkey, this movie actually features pseudo-familial love amidst the zombie apocalypse.

(Interested in another zombie movie? Zombies and Cigarettes has that, and the awkward non-hero, too.)

Lo Que Quiero De Ti (What I Want From You)

This short film about two men, separately talking about their relationship to others, is really quite curious. On the one hand, you have a shy stalker, and on the other hand, you have a restless playboy. Of course, it takes a turn for the weird as they talk more about themselves, and how they view each other.

This movie personally leaves me thoughtful, and with the inkling to check out Nosferatu.

El Monstruo Del Armario (The Monster In The Closet)

This short film about a lurking something in the dark bedroom closet will give you (and your young one) just the right chills. You never know just what could be in there.

Heads up to reader Gary S. for sending in this one.

La Boca Del León (The Lion's Mouth)

This short film is about a to-be possessed man video-calling a priest, who then tries to perform an exorcism via phone. It sounds odd, true, but the video snippets we see and the shaky camera usage lends an interesting, yet quite realistic, view on the whole thing.

Just to add background, here's a synopsis provided by the producers:

A strong depression devoted itself to Mr. Montalvo to live haunted by the world of the dead. But this macabre game has gone too far. Just one last call for help could be his salvation.

Brutal Relax

Mr. Olivarez comes out of recovery to enjoy the beach. Apparently, he will have more fun than he thinks he could, gore and creatures from the sea notwithstanding.

This fun short film is brought to you by the same guys who made the bloody great short, Fist of Jesus.

Juan Con Miedo (Fearful John)

This short film about two kids, an old legend, and a haunted house is creepy, and really rather curious. Is the legend real or not?

Well, either way, fact is usually stranger than fiction.

Zombies And Cigarettes

This short film about a sudden zombie attack at a mall reminds me of the movie/TV heroes who shine during crises exactly like this one. However, this film is not entirely about those kinds of heroes, but the regular people caught in such situations.

Ending was rather... anti-climactic, but in an interesting way.

Alma

This beautifully animated film features a young girl and a doll shop.

Don't let the wonderful music deter you, and do be careful about satisfying that curiosity. You don't quite know where it will lead you to.

Mamá

Mamá is among the creepiest things I've seen so far. (And to think- it's only 3 minutes long!) Not watching that any time again soon.

Interestingly, this inspired the mainstream director Guillermo del Toro to make it into a full feature film, too.

La Cruz (The Cross)

What was supposedly a nice drive out by the countryside quickly turns into something sinister. Note to self: long, lonely roads are no place to practice my skills behind the wheel.

Probably NSFW, as there's some blood, among other things.

La Cabina (The Phone Box)

This one's an oldie, but definitely a goodie. Nice use of lighting, sound and just the right amount of filler dialogue to create an atmosphere. I still can't process how such an everyday thing can be so... extraordinary. The creeps this one gave me will last for some time.
